On September 27 I worked the door at a bar in St Cloud. The band, “The Gear Daddies” were playing. I grew up with Rick Gaetz, who owns the bar. He said if I work the door I could see the show.
The band is excellent. I highly recommend you look them up online)
I met the band and, Dan, the road manager. He gave me a shirt and a ticket with the autographs from the band.
When I left the show, I walked out to my car with the promotion poster. Two women were outside smoking a cigarette. She asked me if she could buy the poster because she was/is a huge fan of the band… I said no because I wanted to keep it. I walked away thinking, “Really, what am going to do with this poster.” I turned back and gave her the poster. She was speechless.. HUGE Fan.
It was around 1230 am and I was hungry so I went to an all-night diner sat down in a booth. A few minutes later they walked in.
“Wow, it’s you, can we sit with you. I’ll buy you anything you want, seriously. You have no idea what it means to me that you gave me that poster. I love The Gear Daddies.”
I said sure. Sandy and Vicky are their names. Great people. We chatted about the show and the band. As I said earlier, the bands road manager gave me an autograph tickect. While talking, I showed Sandy. Again speechless telling me over and over again how much of a fan she was. Again, I thought while we were talking, “What am I going to do with this ticket. I will probably lose it so.”
I offered it to Sandy. She became tearful with joy. “NO, I can’t take this… Really! I’m going to cry. Are you sure.” I told her yes after all she was buying me my meal.
We continued talking about living in Minnesota and the Vikings. They were big fans of the Vikings as well.
Sandy said when she went into the bar to get in she accidently bought tickets for the band that played at later date and different location. Said she had to pay cash to get into the show we were at. I asked how could she have done that; make that kind of mistake. She said she had no idea. Sandy said, “ I bought them accidently. I don’t know… somewhere in Texas.” I told her “I live Texas.” She said I could have them if I wanted. “There is no way I’m going to go to Texas to see the band.” I said Texas is a big state, I don’t know if I would be able to go or use them anyway… She handed it to me and I was shocked to see they were for
“Austin City Limits.” Austin is only 75 miles from San Antonio. Austin City Limits a historical venue.. I’m sure most of you have seen shows on PBS. Now I am speechless. I told her I would pay for them but she insisted I take them.
Fast forward to today.
16 November. Austin City Limits. Met the band because they remembered me from the show in September. Gave me an autographed CD. I was very surprised to see so many of the fans from Minnesota… OH, I forgot to mention, The Gear Daddies are from Austin Minnesota.
General admission standing. Next to me, Kelly. She flew in from Minnesota earlier in the day. She met a friend who lives in Houston. Kelly is from Blaine, Minnesota which is north of Minneapolis. Another HUGE fan and wanted to see the band at Austin City Limits. Only in Austin for 24 hours. A lot of fun.
She said she is having a big party for her 50th Birthday in April.
I told her I will be in Minnesota for the birth of my Grandchild in April.
She invited me.
I wrote this while sitting in an all night diner after the show at 2:30 am.. What a small world. The Bible says if we give, we will be rewarded tenfold. Better known these days as Karma. I think these chain of event’s pretty much proves it to be true.
