Page Arizona – Navajo Nation and Sacred Land

I drove through Page last year not knowing Antelope Canyon was here among other attractions. I took photos of the Dam but then drove to Byrce and Zion.

Antelope Canyon is by tour only. With it being Thanksgiving, everything was booked up for days. I was fortunate enough to get a no show spot. It is a 3 mile drive to the entrance. The Navajo Nation opened it up to the public only 21 years ago. (1997)

Bonnie our tour guide. A very kind soul. I asked how long she has been doing the tours. “I volunteered to do a weekend. I’ve been doing it for 14 years. I guess I like it.” She knows the canyon like the back of her hand. She said “Stand right here…..” then she would point her camera phone and come away with a shot such as, “The Heart of the Canyon

To look at the photos, I would think they are computer generated graphics. I can promise you, these photos are not altered in anyway. It is another very spiritual place. Another of God’s great creations. Absolutely incredible.

Other photos are of the canyon by the Dam. Just happened upon it. Very cold up there.

I checked into a Hotel again. Michael, a native was behind the desk.. He said it’s a busy weekend and the staff celebrated Thanksgiving earlier in the day..

Before leaving for my room I asked, “Is saying, “Happy Thanksgiving” to you ok here.” Michael smiled, “The Navajo celebrate in a different way. We celebrate Thankfulness everyday, even after the genocide. Now, we are thankful for America.”

It was a very powerful statement. “I am thankful for meeting you Michael”
